Phases.

I go through phases with food and drink. Once I get something in my head (chocolate cream eclairs are a reoccurring phase) I’ll eat/drink it until I can’t stand it no more. This doesn’t bode well for the humble can of tuna and the sweet nectar that is Ovaltine; my two latest phases. Not used together, you understand, but sitting quietly apart ready to taunt me with their tastiness. Oh tuna. Plonk a jacket potato in front of me with a big spoonful of the fishy good stuff with mayonnaise and black pepper and I am a happy lady.

So in an effort to give tuna a lifeline I found a few tuna recipes and succumbed to this bad boy – Tuna, Leek and Bacon Dauphinoise. The recipe is meant to be a side dish but I was feeling greedy and turned it into a main (by dolloping three extra spoonfuls on my plate). My defence? It has cream and bacon in it – you would do the same. I didn’t take a photo but trust me, it is amazing. Comfort food like no other.

If like me, you’re a tuna lover, check out some tasty recipes here.

Now where’s my Ovaltine?

Lately.

BBC adaptation of Sebastian Faulk's Birdsong - ruddy brilliant.

Lana Del Ray - catching what I can on the radio before her album is released next week. Love her voice.

Thai Chicken Noodle Soup - comforting, spicy and easy peasy to make.

Anything hot. Preferably with chocolate in it.

Aubin & Wills

It’s never a good idea to stumble upon a brand that you love and want to buy into when you are broke. In fact it’s probably best to avoid the internet altogether; which is why I unsubscribe from shop email alerts every week. But I can honestly say, at the moment, I don’t mind window (couch) shopping. Firstly, it makes me realise whether I really want something or not. Give it a month or two and if I still like the item (and have money) then I know it’s a keeper. Secondly, the item(s) might have been reduced, joy!

Aubin & Wills (yup, I’m always late to the party) has seduced me a little – OK maybe a lot. Not only producing beautiful clothing for the Mesdames et Messieurs but incorporating a gallery and cinema into their brand. Did I mention when I was younger, apart from wanting to be a lighthouse keeper, I wanted to own my own cinema? Ah, yes.

Anyhoo, take a look at the Spring shoot, eep! Firstly, I want ALL  her clothes and secondly I want her hair (Irina Lazareanu). That is all. Oh and did I mention Alex James models for them too…swoonathon.

Bookmarked: flowers

When the Christmas tree and decorations came down, I couldn’t wait to have some fresh and pretty flowers for the house. They are a gentle reminder that Spring is on its way.

We’re being very careful with our pennies at the moment, like everyone I guess, so they can’t be added to the shopping list just yet. So imagine my delight when my colleague and friend bought me some daffodils last week, just because.

I’m not sure what makes me feel cheery when I see flowers? Maybe they remind me of the outdoors and that feeling of nature and the wild. Or maybe because they’re so darn pretty, colourful and smell divine!

Anyhoo, I’ve been catching up on blogs over the last week and it seems flowers are everywhere. Flowers inspire!

Enjoy your Wednesday!

January in Hebden Bridge.

I had such a lovely weekend. Made up of tasty poached eggs for breakfast, Wintry walks, roast dinners, a family party (and a few vino’s), snuggles on the sofa watching good & bad films (don’t watch Easy A- wasted 2 hours of my life!) and reading my book, The Great Gatsby.

January is the month of hibernation isn’t it? Instead of feeling blue about the dark nights and cold mornings I’m trying to enjoy this time. Warming up with huge mugs of Ovaltine (courtesy of the OH’s Mum – thank you!), getting back into the swing of things at work, planning crafty endeavours to earn extra pennies, receiving beautiful daffodils from a friend (highlight of my week), baking bread (first batch tomorrow), catching up on TV (still to watch-Sherlock & Xmas Downton Abbey), playing endless board games and feeling positive once more about the future, yay!

As for the walking, I’m pretty chuffed with the weekend walks we did. Firstly we ventured to Blakedean, a part of Hardcastle Crags. The following day, we headed to Old Town, the village above Hebden Bridge. We just walked and walked (with the occasional Green & Black choccy break!) and hoped it would stay dry, which it did. The roast dinner and bottle of wine afterwards tastes so much better after you’ve walked your little ass off – joy!

Thanks to lovely friends and family we’ve been looked after all weekend and ate like royalty (dons crown and sceptre). I think I might bake some bread as a thank you (If it’s good enough for Larry David…).

January is actually working out to be just fine and dandy so far. How’s yours?
