A week in film.

There is one thing that I know in life I will always have. It’s been with me through my childhood, the tender teenage years, hectic twenties and now in my comfy thirties – the cosy film night in.
What with the cold nights and lack of money, we’ve been having many cosy evenings in watching films either from our DVD collection, Love Film (through letterbox and Xbox!) or borrowed. Here’s some that I’ve enjoyed lately that are worth a watch/your time.

Rear Window//In the Land of Women//Perrier’s Bounty

The Ice Storm//Trees Lounge//Julie and Julia

I like stories. Indeedy I do.

Bookmarked: Navy Peter Pan collar dress, Dorothy Perkins

Navy Peter Pan collar dress, £40.

Well, isn’t this dress just lovely? Dorothy Perkins have quite a few at the moment that are ticking the proverbial box. I haven’t seen this in person, just online, but what with the Peter Pan collar, delicate front buttons and patent belt – I think it’s a winner.

I’m currently trying my hand at designing a few detachable Peter Pan collars. My first attempt looked so pretty but the interfacing padded it out too much making it too rigid. I might have had a tantrum and threw it across the room. Ahem. Ah well, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try and try again! I’ll let you see my other attempts soon!

Lately: wandering and wondering

Lovely Valentine’s treats, including a mix CD! Snuggling in front of my sister’s fire with my nephew, wandering around Halifax (my Sister bought me some brogues!). Wondering what 2012 has in store, winning a lovely competition from As Petals Fall blog. Picking up a book for the OH and Sleepless in Seattle from Oxfam, only to return home and the DVD doesn’t work! Meh. It is OK to take something back to a charity shop to exchange, isn’t it?

Hmm, what else have I been up to? Dying my hair a darker shade of brown to cover those delightful grey’s (damn you!), watching numerous films (more of that later in week), cooking Sunday dinner for friends and planning world domination by making pretty things for my shop and building up the courage to start writing a play that’s been in my head for months- need my own laptop!

As for this week, I’m looking forward to my Mum’s Birthday tea, popping to Skipton with my Sister and nephew, researching slow cooker recipes for when it arrives, crafting and my birthday. Crikey. Reading that back I sound like my Nanna. OLD LADY WAYS! If she were alive she’d be proud.
*Note to self, watch Upstairs Downstairs on iplayer.

On another note, I have been slightly sporadic (reminds me of Clueless!) with blog posts of late. Very sorry about that. I’ve had a few things on my mind and haven’t been feeling particularly inspired (I think we all feel like that, sometimes). However, I’ve got blog posts scheduled for this week already and I’m feeling pleased I’m getting back into the swing of things. I never want this blog to be a chore, so I kind of feel it’s OK to have a break now and again, and not put myself under too much pressure. Anyhoo, I hope that’s OK? Time for a cuppa and a Jammie Dodger, joy!

Happy Monday!

Tote of the week: The Cat’s Pyjamas Tote, Alphabet Bags.

It was either this tote or the bees knees tote but the cute cat swayed it for me (and I’m a dog person!).  You can purchase this The Cat’s Pyjamas tote from Alphabet bags for £12.

Happy weekend y’all!

P.S I’m adding this tote to my earlier wish list too!

Wish lists, they make me happy.

Why is it so comforting writing a birthday wish list, I wonder? I know that the things I include are unlikely to be bought (and rightly so!) as I have very organised parents who buy months and months in advance (hurrah to a new slow cooker coming our way!). I guess it’s just nice to curate coveted pieces that have caught my eye of late. Also, to be fair, apart from GHD hair straighteners I don’t actually need anything. Ah, what the hell. I like wish lists and I like birthdays, so here goes:

1. These Henderson Sky Brogues from Clarks belong on my feet. Dreamy comes to mind. Dreamy!

2. I’m coveting this fine-knit striped scarf from H&M, only £7.99. Add’s a touch of ooh-lala to any outfit!

3. No, I don’t want Woody Allen for my birthday but I am pining to watch some of his movies. A few years ago I took all my VHS to a humble charity shop, which included some of my favourite Woody Allen films. A DVD box set including Annie Hall, Manhattan and Love and Death would be just lovely.

4. I’ve had my eye on this super bright red satchel from French & English Confectioner’s for an age! I think that means I like it. I like it a lot.

5. Eep. My Mum reminded me the other day of a necklace she used to wear with a tiny hedgehog as its pendant. As soon as she mentioned it, lots of memories came flooding back and I’ve been searching for one ever since (she’s since lost it). This one is pretty similar, with an antique finish. I am in love.

6. I cry a lot. A silly amount. Most of the time over something of nothing, like men crying on TV or when I see sad animals in zoos. So, to try be a tad more environmentally friendly, I believe the time has come to purchase a handkerchief. This ‘Dry Your eyes’ hanky, designed by Olivia Mew is just delightful.

7. A subscription to Oh Comely magazine. A wonderful lifestyle magazine that simply makes me smile.

8. A little bit of luxury! This has to be my favourite bath oil – L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil leaving you with super soft skin!

Hurrah for birthdays, 2 weeks to go!

P.S Tote of the week post to follow this aft!
