A cuppa and a good read.

With the launch of Wish magazine scouring the blogosphere (exciting!) I thought I’d take a look at other magazines on the market that might tempt the alternative/creative woman.

There’s nothing better than a pile of magazines and a pot of freshly brewed tea, is there? In fact, that and a little sunshine is a perfect afternoon in my book. Oh and some cake…and maybe the radio playing in the background. Bliss.

I’ve already found my bliss in Oh Comely;  it has everything I could hope for in a magazine with plenty of topics and visual delights.  So it makes me happy that there are potential magazines out there that have similar goals and inspirations – less advertisements, ‘whats hot this season’ and ‘what not to say to a man’ – cringe!

Here are a small selection of magazines that I’ve heard about via Twitter and from blogs-a-plenty that have intrigued me. Are you a reader? Are there any magazines out there I’m missing that I don’t know about? I’m a crafty, fashion, homewares, recipe, music, film and inspiring stories kinda gal – not much to ask for in a magazine, huh?!

As for Wish magazine you can pre-order your copy now for £5 here.

Tote of the week: The Beatles via Yoox

This tote makes my heart sing, my toes tap, my hips swish and my head sway. That’s always a good thing, right?

This beautiful number is currently on sale via Yoox for twelve of your English pounds. It is rather large so will hopefully fit the record you spotted in your local charity shop, a bottle of fine wine and many packets of pickled onion Space Raiders. OK, maybe that’s a small insight into the life of my tote bags…

All together now! In the town where I was born…

Book Review: Sweetie!: 50 Delectable Treats

Sweetie!: 50 Delectable Treats is an adorable recipe book filled with 50 mouth-watering treats to tempt you into a sugar-enduced coma. Amen.

The recipes are taken from The Hardie Grant Test Kitchen and are all illustrated (not a photograph in sight) by Daniella Germain.

I found the recipes easy to follow including plenty of detail (imperial, metric and American cup conversions) with clear content that makes up for the fact you don’t really see what you are making – my only concern. However, I will hold my hands up and confess that may come down to my lack of confidence in baking – ah macaroons how you taunt me.

I’ve yet to make a recipe from Sweetie! but will be putting a few ideas together from the book when I have a little tea party this summer in our local woods. As soon as the sun pops out I’ll be paying homage with a G&T popsicle! Hurrah.

The book is compact and great for the baker (and appreciator of good illustration!) in your life. You can purchase Sweetie!: 50 Delectable Treats from Amazon for just £6.99 and I thoroughly recommend you do!

P.S Thank you Hardie Grant Books for the review copy!

Lately

A spot of period drama, a Withnail & I sampler I’m making for a good friend, wonderfully scented Hyacinths, the Heart Gallery girls sitting pretty, the tasty treats we gave out at the new exhibition launch, our lovely shoes (must wear my bow shoes more often!), babysitting for my nephew (peek-a-boo!), christening our new telly by watching Lord Of The Rings (obligatory), treating ourselves to a tasty Thai meal overlooking the marina at Hebden Bridge, afternoon walks and perusing my lovely gifted cake stand.
