It only had to be a matter of time until Design*Sponge did a ‘living in’ feature on one of my favourite films, A Very Long Engagement. It is a beautiful, beautiful film afterall (I named my blog after the main characters). Time to watch again me thinks.

I love this. What a great way to display wine glasses. I am now on the hunt for disused rakes. You know, like you do.

I did mention that I’d be researching wreaths didn’t I? I really like this idea for an indoor wreath using sheet music.

Mmm lemon cake. How lovely is this presented as a gift? If you hop, skip and jump over to the blog you can print out the cute labels for free (Nb. add to packaging ideas for Christmas).

I went to New Look the other week and was, once again, shocked with their collection. Gorgeous colours, shapes and styles for the season and all affordable. I picked up an autumnal scarf and will definately be putting vouchers on my wish list for crimbo, including this dress.

Mug love. That is all.

Fleurs and a brilliant magazine.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely Bank Holiday weekend? I’ve been pottering in the house, around town and keeping the boy Boo company during the Hebden Bridge Blues Festival. Today, is quite literally our day of rest!

I went to my favourite antique shop, which happens to be in Hebden Bridge (aren’t I lucky) and came away with some framed botanical prints, which I’ll take a piccy of when I’ve decided where they’ll live. I’m thinking the bathroom though…ho hum. I also bought this embroidered picture that I’ve popped in the kitchen. I like the pie in it. Mmm pie.

I picked up some flowers on sale, that looked a bit worse for wear and popped them in my thrifted sweet jars around the house…they look lovely! I’m not the best at flower arranging but just a couple in each jar cheers our house up lots!

I also have been scribbling away in my notepad with ideas for crafting and my shop. I’m aware I’ve not been updating it for a while as my fingers have been busy writing the play. But now, I’m back and ready to craft away like a silly billy! So I was pleased as punch to pick up Mollie Makes this weekend to inspire me some more. It’s such a lovely magazine, as if it was made for me! I’m going to make the little felt iPod case today that came free with the magazine. Roll on the next issue!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Things on my mind…

Oh Comely. What a beautiful magazine. It’s so refreshing to find a magazine that celebrates creativity in all its form. Just need to get hold of issue 2 to carry on with my love affair. Sorry regular magazines, I was getting bored.

Candy. Tonight, we’re getting a wee addition to our little nest. Well, for three weeks anyhoo. I can’t wait! (I’m also petrified that I’ll kill her, is that normal?) I’m really looking forward to going on lots of walks with her thus being forced to do exercise. Hope she enjoys her holiday in Hebden Bridge!

This band and this song. Love them.

Some new patchwork hoops I’m working on. There’s so many beautiful vintage fabrics around, they look lovely on the wall and make me smile. I just need to list them in the shop!

Vintage cookery books. I have a dilemma. I bought these for the shop but I love them so much I might keep them, or maybe one. I swear they are the best cook books I’ve ever seen. Anyhoo, they deserve a whole post to themselves so I’ll save that for later in the week.

Bargains. First I spotted the frame, then the tapestry, then the price – 25p. Sold! To the girl with the big grin on her face!

Something old, something new

When I was child, I remember a trip to Whitby with my folks. Now I’m not sure, but I think  it was the first time I had been into an antique shop. It was jam-packed with treasures from the floor to the ceiling and I couldn’t help myself  diving into baskets and boxes searching for gems, under the careful watch of my mum and dad. I came out of the shop with an old atlas. It was too big for me to carry so Dad kept it under his arm whilst we walked to the sea front. I couldn’t wait to open it up. When I did, I found a piece of paper with handwritten ship coordinates and notes that I couldn’t decipher, dating back to the 1800s. It blew my mind! Knowing someone else had this atlas, used it, cared for it…it really did feel like a treasure.

Every time I visit an antique fair, market or charity shop, I still feel this childlike sense of awe. Vintage wares deserve to be used, to be looked at and to be enjoyed.

Something new…

Inspired by the vintage items I collect, I also love to make things.  Using vintage, new and upcycled materials I love nothing more than to create pieces that are beautiful and practical.

Put these two passions together and what do you get? My online shop! It is now officially open (snips ribbon.) I’ve started small, only listing a few of my products (small steps!) but I hope you like what you see. I’ll be updating the shop weekly with new designs and vintage finds that you too can take home and treasure.

Wish me luck (I’ll be hiding behind the couch the rest of the day!)

Out with the new, in with the old!

Following on from yesterday, I thought I would share some of my favourite online vintage shops on Etsy. The items I have listed below are practical, stylish and beautiful…what more could you desire?!

I really believe in buying second-hand. Whether it be in your local flea market, charity shop, car boot or online. Not only is it great for the environment but affordable too. Ok, I’m starting to sound like Kirstie Allsopp now!

Here’s some online vintage finds to feast over…I can’t wait to add mine to the list!
