Detroit

I apologise for no crafty, thrifty or chirpy content in this post but I had to share the photographs in case you hadn’t seen them already.

Ever since the boy and I started watching The Wire, not only were we hooked but steadily grew a fascination with the American City, Detroit. If ever there was proof of the economic downturn in America, this was it. Since the recession in the fifties, and the relocation of the Henry Ford car manufacturer plants, Detroit has gone from being the fourth largest and thriving city in America, to a city which today has lost half of its population. What’s left?

The Guardian yesterday showed extraordinary photographs by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre’s showing the City in its abandoned and post-apocalyptic state. These photos are amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it!
