Friday loves necklaces

Necklaces have been around for a long time. Believed to go as far back as the Stone Age – that’s a lot of necklaces! Here’s a few more to add to the mix from the extremely talented Lucie Ellen.

Lucie works with broken/damaged vintage crockery and reclaimed wood, handcutting things that would have normally gone into the bin.  Don’t you just love remade items? Her range also includes brooches, earrings and more recently, homewares. Go take a look at her website for more information. Enjoy!

Thrills, spills and memory loss

the mess my cake made.

In one of my earlier posts, I mentioned a pair of pretty leaf earrings that I had my eyes on. ‘Buy me! Buy me!’ they were saying. Well, how happy was I when they appeared through our letterbox yesterday? Thank you Isla, you made a northern gal very happy amidst all the housework I was doing! Surprises, I like them a lot.

Yesterday was a productive day. I managed to clean the house, bake a cake, design 3 cards, make the said cards, write some blog posts, and chase a wasp out of the house with my brolly. I know most people do housework without seeing it as an achievement, but I do. I’m 30 and still retreat in disbelief at the amount of ‘work’ involved in keeping a house looking ‘ok’. My mum, bless her anal, OCD and freakishly clean ways, does despair at me. Now that I’m older she doesn’t say anything to my face, she likes to think she respects our different approaches to housework. However I know this isn’t true. No, it’s all in the eyes you see. Those eyes can shame me into puffing up cushions in a mere second.

My mum would weep.

This was my crafting station last night – our bed. I woke up this morning with thread stuck to my face, oh the joy. Anyhoo, these are three cards I made. I’m pleased with them. As you can see I like cutting up books. All in the name of art of course.

3 is the magic number

All wrapped up in cellophane envelopes!

I ordered some mini business cards today from Moo to pop with cards and other things I make. You can create your own designs and are small enough to keep in the weeniest of purses and not impose on people’s memo boards. Hmmm I don’t have the greatest business mind do I? Oh well, I like them, and that’s what matters (plus they’re pretty). I will pop them on here when Mr postman delivers them, how excited am I? I’m also working out what I’m going to sell on Etsy. I’m tempted to sell things I find in markets and antique shops as well as the things I make. I need to keep it simple though. Oh! I have so many ideas. It doesn’t help when you have a memory like a sieve. Note to self, must have note pad on me at all times!

I fear a tea break is in order. Until next time ♥

Sweet dreams are made of this…

I’ve been a bit blog-happy recently and haven’t spent my spare time crafting as I usually do. So today is officially ‘Crafty day’, what fun!

I have an old table-cloth that I bought for a pound from an antique shop, that I’m going to use to make a few things. The other week I made a start and made this card and cut out a butterfly from a book. I like the way the butterfly looks like it’s just about to fly off! So I thought I’d stitch ‘one day I’ll fly away’ on it.

Talking of books, I have a few more pictures to add to my favourite things.

Ah! The pleasure of a built-in bookcase!

I love books. The problem – I don’t read enough of them. Aesthetically they are beautiful and they smell old and lovely.  Even now I am resting a cup of tea on a book (I should look after them more!) whilst summing up the desire to read it instead of turning on the telly or continue writing my blog. I could happily look at this bookcase all day. Hmm to blog or not to blog…?

box of delicious recipes...well, when I get round to it

One day, whilst having a clear out  I found my collection of postcards that I’ve had for years. Some were  images of places I’ve been or arty pics from museums etc – all very inspiring and brought back lots of memories. I thought it was quite sad that they were all sat in a box and didn’t really have a purpose.

I remember watching The Delicious Miss Dahl that week, and saw she kept all her recipes written on cards in a little box. So I thought I’d use my post cards instead and write all my favourite recipes on the back of them! I guess you could also do this with photographs, as long as you didn’t mind a few spills etc! Just a good way to actually use the things you pick up, instead of hoarding them away. Anyhoo, I found a beautiful, mustard yellow box with hand painted blue flowers on it for £2 in a local antique shop and that’s where my recipes shall remain.

I heart this book. It was published in 1962 and contains some of the great poets; T.S Eliot, Elizabeth Jennings, Ted Hughes and so many more. I love the cover pattern for this book too. I had a quick look on Penguin Books website and look, they now have these gorgeous cloth bound classics including my favourite, Wuthering Heights…swoooooooooooooon! I want them all!
